Grief and Loss Counseling in Gig Harbor

Grief and loss incorporate more than just the loss of someone close, but that is a major component of how people envision grief and loss.

I deal with many clients that are grieving more than the loss of a loved one, rather they are going through transitions from a history of working into a world of retirement which incorporates grief and loss of what is perceived as purpose and focus into a different world.

Grief and loss pertain to anything that has vanished and leaves a person feeling empty—the end of a marriage, a move to a new location, the betrayal of friendship, or the loss of a job.

Each person experiences loss as a unique emotion to themselves.

Grief and loss are personal journeys into how someone relates to the relationship of what is lost and how to reconstruct a new reality with a different existence.

Looking at the various stages of grief, working through how someone has endured those stages, looking at the positive values one can draw from the lost entity or person, then saying goodbye to what keeps us attached to the pain and feeling the freedom to move forward into the newness of the future is all a part of therapeutic sessions.

The past can still inform us of our present reality, but it can also be a process to help us build something new.

Grieving doesn’t make you imperfect. It makes you human.
